STEAM GOLF IT UPDATE
With the June update they added a cover system for the AI.

Ballistics and wounding have not been taken into consideration with the damage model. Death never really feels fair in Ready Or Not. They don't feel or act like real people and so they just feel like Jack in the Box robots that make cheap shots. But it feels like such a limited variety of interactions that it never really surprises me what they do. If I don't cuff them right away, they pull out a gun or a knife. I might not have time to react, but I never feel surprised. The AI is erratic from a technical standpoint yet predicable from a gameplay perspective. Criticisms of the AI being too quick to react and too accurate are valid. The problem with RON (which tries to create these tense situations in real time) is that the AI simply does not work as intended. Something like this was achieved in Call of Duty Modern Warfare's "Clean House" mission, although it was scripted and therefore lost any sense of surprise and apprehension on a second playthrough. I was hoping for dynamic situations where suspects surrender and then pull out guns, and having to read their emotions and behavior in order to react appropriately in a split-second. Arresting suspects rather than just shooting them like enemies in a more traditional FPS. Ready Or Not is supposed to be a SWAT shooter where you have the option of resolving situations non-lethally. The game does not have a lot of content, but more importantly, it does not have a strong technical foundation. Updates are released too slowly, the criticism of the "supporter" edition and paywalling early access are valid. However, while I do not necessarily regret my purchase of RON, I cannot recommend it for others. I usually do not spend more than $20 on a video game, and I shelled out $40 to play RON simply because there is no other game like it and I knew that the game would never have a substantial discount. I believe that the lack of serious competition means that Void Interactive has gotten comfortable jerking around their fanbase because there is essentially nowhere else for them to go. There have been virtually zero games to compete with SWAT 4, which was released more than fifteen years ago. The truth of the matter is that Void Interactive is a very inconsistent, perhaps even shady development team.

It did release, but the whole light of day part might be optimistic. I was surprised when RON finally released, as I believed it was abandoned to development hell and would never see the light of day. These days players complain about Void delaying updates, whereas I can still remember when the fanbase was complaining about gameplay trailers being delayed. Void Interactive was always cryptic and basically noncommunicative with their fanbase. The game achieved a cult following on websites such as Reddit and I followed the bits and pieces of development news that came by through the years. I first found out about the game years ago when all we had was a teaser trailer, some screenshots, and no real gameplay.
